Standardize growing pigs’ performance
Who has the higher Average Daily Gain (ADG)? Who has the best Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR)? STANDIPIG enables a simple approach to standardize the ratios.
A strategic approach
In today’s business, it is always necessary to compare and benchmark the zootechnical performances of livestock between different treatments, successive batches and even farms.
However, the variety of farm contexts makes this task very difficult, as the pigs performances are changing significantly with age. For example, an Average Daily Gain of piglets for a post-weaning period ending at 30kg needs to be interpreted differently depending on wether the animals have been weaned at 6kg or at 8kg live weight.
Standipig proposes standardised ADG and FCR
In an effort to compensate for the variability in breeding practices and situations, equations have been developed to standardise livestock performance in terms of GMQ, feed intake and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR). These equations were first published in the JRP conferences in 1991 and 2004. They have been widely used since then and became a reference in this sector.
Those equations are quite complex, but STANDIPIG represents an easy opportunity to simply use them in a few steps.
After first choosing the reference weight for the periods under studied period (post-weaning, fattening or weaning at term) and completing the observed zootechnical performance data: ADG, FCR, starting and ending weights, STANDIPIG proposes standardised ADG and FCR ratios for the chosen reference period.
